‘Storm Means Place Wires in Conduit’
Mayor August Helmbold, of Newport, startled city officials Friday by Averring failure to enforce an ordinance that was partly responsible for Newport’s inconveniences from the recent tornado.
Mayor Helmbold said that time and time again he had tried to enforce the ordinances compelling all electric light companies to place their wiring in underground conduits. Helmbold says that most of Newport’s damage was caused by falling poles and wires.
Altho no direct mention was made of another effort to enforce the ordinance, it was strongly intimated.
