Martin Marshall Homestead
The Martin Marshall homestead was built in the early days of Augusta by Martin Marshall, and with its walls were born the Marshall family, who became prominent citizens of Kentucky. There are only two of the original family living today - Hon. Thornton F. Marshall, who lives in this city, and Geo. Marshall, who lives at Smith's Station, Hind County, Mississippi. This property has been improved from time to time. Mr. Martin Marshall was one of the first lawyers who settled in Augusta, and he practiced his profession here until his death, September 19, 1853. He was one of the ablest attorneys in the South. He had a large practice throughout Ohio and Kentucky, and some of the most noted men of the county were students in his office. He helped to build up the city of Augusta in its infancy.
