J. R. Minor is a prominent Attorney in Augusta. He is a native of Bracken County and was born on a farm about three miles from Augusta, August 6th, 1840, of "Old Virginia" stock, both his grandfathers and grandmothers having emigrated from Virginia to Kentucky during the bloody struggles of the early settlers with the Indians. He was educated at Augusta College, and taught school several years before entering upon the practice of his profession in 1871. He married Minerva, daughter of R. D. and Catharine (Walton) Smith in 1869, and they have a large family of interesting children. He has filled many important offices in the city and county and is now the nominee of the Democratic party for the office of County Judge.
