Mastodon Bones

With a certain degree of pride do we place in our cabinet a rare specimen, a tooth of a mastodon that weights thirteen pounds.  It is in a high state of preservation.  The specimen is a present from Hon. A. J. Markley, of Foster, Ky. , and was found about one mile above that place in the bank of the Ohio river.  Several large bones, no doubt from the same animal, were recently unearthed by the washing of the river.  The ball of the thigh joint is five and one half inches in diameter.
