George D. McClure
George D. McClure is a native of West Virginia, born fifty-one years ago. The first sixteen years of his life were passed on a farm. His father died when he was but seven years old. He came to Dayton with his mother in 1866, and been engaged in ship carpentering during the thirty-two years of his residence here. Until the present year he has never been in public office. He was elected chief of police by the council last December, and is an active, intelligent and efficient officer.
The GAR (a short history of the organization is at this site) held it's annual encampment in Dayton in September,1898. All of the Dayton images and texts dated 1898 are from the souvenir booklet prepared for the occasion.
