City councilman John Kruchten was born September 6, 1860 on the Covert Run Pike, in what is now South Bellevue.  In 1867 the family came to Dayton, and here Mr. Krutchen was educated in the public schools.  In 1876, he went into the baker's business, which trade he followed for nine years.  Next he engaged in the feed business, which he still carries on at Sixth avenue and Main street. The firm being Walters & Krutchen.  In 1887, Mr. Krutchen married Miss Anna, daughter of Dr. Joseph Paul.  There are two children.  Mr. Krutchen, up to 1897, had held no public office.  In that year he was elected to council from the Second ward.
