John P. Newman

John P. Newman was born in Upton, Mass., in 1852.  He is a graduate of the Cincinnati Law School, 1878, and member of the Campbell county bar.  He has served five years in the legislature, the last term as Senator, and has held several other places, always with ability.  Few men are more popular.  He is commonwealth attorney. The Hon. John P. Newman resides at this residence, corner of Eighth avenue and Vine street.  There are few handsomer or more sightly places than this. The beautiful lawn is a favorite place for summer fetes, and the generous owner always makes them welcome.  No one knows better how to be graciously and gracefully hospitable.

The GAR (a short history of the organization is at this site) held it's annual encampment in Dayton in September,1898.  All of the Dayton images and texts dated 1898 are from the souvenir booklet prepared for the occasion.
