W. G. Wharton
W. G. Wharton was born in Newport and came to Dayton with his family in 1871. His schooling was in both Ohio and Dayton. His first venture was with a Cincinnati grocer. Now he is custodian of the Mitchell building on Fourth street. He is married and has two children. The handsome Fourth Avenue shown here was built by Mr. Wharton last year.
The GAR (a short history of the organization is at this site) held it's annual encampment in Dayton in September,1898. All of the Dayton images and texts dated 1898 are from the souvenir booklet prepared for the occasion.
