George P. Quiggen
George P. Quiggen was born and raised in Cleveland. He served in the Eighty-fourth Ohio Infantry during the civil war, and his name, along with those of two brothers, is registered in the great monument on the square. In 1865, Mr. Quigley cam to Cincinnati, in 1872 to Newport, and in 1885 to Dayton, where he already owned real estate. He has been a taxpayer in Dayton for twenty-five years. In 1866 he went into river business, at first as bill clerk. Now he is secretary of the Big Sandy Packet Company, the Louisville Mail Packet Company, and the Memphis and New Orleans Packet Company, and secretary and treasurer of the Licking Coal and Towboat Company. He confines himself strictly to his business, and is not tempted from it.
The GAR (a short history of the organization is at this site) held it's annual encampment in Dayton in September,1898. All of the Dayton images and texts dated 1898 are from the souvenir booklet prepared for the occasion.
