W. M. Spencer

Wolcott M. Spencer has been a resident of Dayton for fifteen years, during which time he has been very successful in business and has invested largely in Dayton property.  He built the house shown here in 1886, and remodeled it in 1894, at a total cost of about $4,000.  Mr. Spencer is the head of the firm of W. M. Spencer & Son, of Cincinnati, large manufacturers of jellies, preserves, pickles, catsup, etc., which have a large sale in the local and shipping trade, and are familiar on the grocer's shelves.  Mr. Spencer has been in both school board and council, doing good and faithful service in both bodies.  But he does not seek office, and holds none now.

The GAR (a short history of the organization is at this site) held it's annual encampment in Dayton in September,1898.  All of the Dayton images and texts dated 1898 are from the souvenir booklet prepared for the occasion.
