GAR Women's' Relief Corp
Joe Hooker W. R. C.[Women's Relief Corp - the women's auxiliary to the G.A.R.] No. 21 organized November 8, 1890, with nineteen charter members. The first officers were: President, Mrs. Emma Kingery; Senior Vice President, Miss Lida Maxwell; Junior Vice President, Mrs. D. J. Hewetson; Secretary, Miss Kittie Winston; Treasurer, Mrs. L. W. Winston; Chaplain, Mrs. Mary Banks; Con., Mrs. Alice Lamb; Guard, Mrs. Carrie Truesdale; Assistant Con., Mrs. Mary Balser; Assistant Guard, Miss May Balser. The corp has forty-eight members at present, and is the banner corps of Kentucky. The charter members were: Mrs. Emma Kingery, Mrs. Mary Maxwell, Miss Lida Maxwell, Mrs. Frances Ingles, Mrs. L. W. Winston, Miss Kittie Winston, Mrs. Sarah Pritchard, Mrs. Mary Banks, Mrs. Anna McDowell, Mrs. Edith Aughenbaugh, Mrs. Annie Farrell, Mrs. Alice Lamb, Mrs. Mary Balser, Muss May Balser, Mrs. Sarah Van Zant, Mrs. Hattie Webster, Mrs. Carrie Truesdale, Mrs. D. J. Hewtson, Mrs. Mary Jackson.
The GAR (a short history of the organization is at this site) held it's annual encampment in Dayton in September,1898. All of the Dayton images and texts dated 1898 are from the souvenir booklet prepared for the occasion.
