Ben Vocke

 

B. H. Vocke was born in Cincinnati in 1864, and was brought up in that city, attending the public schools.  He was a clothing cutter for ten years.  Two years ago he bought and fitted up his present place, and has made it a popular resort.  Mr. Vocke was chairman of the Democratic city executive committee in the last election, and is on the amusement committee for the Encampment.  Headquarters of the Dayton Bowling and Fishing Club, and other like societies, are at Ben Vocke's.  It is a center for town news.

 

The GAR (a short history of the organization is at this site) held it's annual encampment in Dayton in September,1898.  All of the Dayton images and texts dated 1898 are from the souvenir booklet prepared for the occasion.
