The Dayton Skiff
One of the oldest of Dayton enterprises is the skiff shown. It was the first subject of legislation when Jamestown [Dayton's earlier name] was incorporated in 1849. Lew Harrison now has the ferry and combines with that business the letting of boats, of which he has a good supply. The ferry and boat-house is still a great convenience, and Harrison is obliging and popular.
The GAR (a short history of the organization is at this site) held it's annual encampment in Dayton in September,1898. All of the Dayton images and texts dated 1898 are from the souvenir booklet prepared for the occasion.
