Duel
The Louisville Democrat states that a duel was fought near Newport , (Ky.,) between Singer, the Cincinnati schoolmaster, who was horsewhipped by a Mrs. Taxford, and Smith the attorney, who completed the business by knocking him down. The duel was fought with pistols at eleven paces, and at the first fire Smith was shot through the thigh, and Singer through the arm—whereas the assembled crowd gave three cheers, and the belligerents left the ground.
