The Spring of Cold Spring
The spring is now completely gone – by the Drees Company so they could make a few more millions – disregarding the fact they were destroying our history.
To find the spring then – before its elimination; you could have gone into Bunning Lane from US 27. I would say 2 blocks or so, turn right into what is now Springhouse Drive (or Creekstone, Cobblestone, etc…) I cannot recognize anything now it is all changed…the spring was a block or so off Bunning Lane.
First you saw Joe Zinn’s big & beautiful garden (my admiration) – walk beyond that the spring was there – but now? I cannot take you there..
My son Bruce says he knows exactly where the spring was (?) can take you there (?).
He lives in Cold Spring on “Never Dry” Pooles Creek #2
This is deplorable the City of Cold Spring left the Drees Company do away with the beautiful area it could have been a historical city park, a county park, etc. It was history for the whole area. Drees cannot blame bulldozer drivers for the destruction – it had to be engineered, well planned so the water that was flowing from the spring could be directed away – and the spring was flowing then! They had to buy pipes etc… it was done with the purpose of eliminating the spring “our Cold Spring” – and all these poor turtles! Massacred by the hundreds –
Shame on them!
Lisa Schmidt Cavanaugh posted this on the Facebook page Old Photos of Northern Kentucky. She describes it as “a handwritten account of the “Cold Spring” from a resident who lived on Marion Dr.”
