1884 Carrollton Flood Picture

www.nkyviews.com

The picture was taken at Third and Sycamore streets, looking west across the Kentucky River toward Prestonville, and was made during the flood of February, 1884.  The barge of hay had just been caught in the river and brought to shore.  The submerged house in the center of the picture was the home of Mrs. Mary Tombrink, and is still [as of the date of this old newspaper article] standing.  The Jett Distillery can be seen in the center of the picture, and across the river the Darling distillery, owned by Block Distilling Co.  The man second from the far right is the father of Miss Bertha Glauber, Mr. John Glauber.
