Mrs. Constance Hoig, of Pullman, Wash., enroute home from a visit in New York, stopped at Sparta to view the pioneer home of her great-great-grandfather, who came here from the Holston Valley, Virginia, in 1800, founded the town, and gave it the name of Sparta in honor the of Grecian village whose brave sons died to a man on the fields of Thermopylae

Mrs. Hoig is dean of women in the State College at Pullman.  She was entertained in the home of Mrs. Curtis Gullion while here.
