History of Gallatin County, Part 31
We visited the old log house on the James Montgomery place below Warsaw Monday, It is not known in what year this house was erected, but in 1807 it was re-modeled. Twenty-one children were born to the first Montgomery couple that lived in this house. It has been weather boarded by Emmet Montgomery, which makes it lose much of it's interest. The logs can be seen from the inside. They are ash and very large.
The old Montgomery cemetery [located on the east side of Montgomery Road in far western Gallatin County] is just a few steps from the house. The stones are in good condition. Four of them show that the children had died in the same year of scarlet fever. It's an interesting old home and many interesting folks have come out of it.
