At the time of this photo, 1905, it was common for most county school systems to have “institutes.”  It was a gathering of all of the teachers of all of the one room schools of the county.  They were not unlike what we think of today as an “in-service day.”

The superintendent is Mr. J. A. McDanell, and the building, as pointed out to me by Alex Weldon, is the old Warsaw Opera House, kinda across from the Baptist Church.
