Vera Cruz

The community known as Vera  Cruz was at the point where Vera Cruz Road meets Ky. 35.  That's Vera Cruz Creek at the same spot. There was a time when it featured an inn, which, at the bottom of hill, made it a spot for stopping off for travelers and their animals.

The story has been told that a brawl broke out at the inn on March 9, 1847, which is also the day of the Battle of Vera Cruz in the Mexican War.  Because of the coincidence, the community adopted the name.

The first paragraph above is true; the second likely an old wives tale, but it's a nice story.
