Mystery Probed
Glencoe, Ky., Oct. 6 - Searching parties that have been scouring the fields and woods near here for the past week in an effort to throw some light upon the mystery of the strange disappearance of Virgil Carver, 30, of Glencoe, were again unrewarded for their efforts late yesterday when they dragged Eagle Creek in hopes of finding the body of Carver, who they believe has been slain.
The belief that Carver was murdered was advanced by authorities here when he failed to return to his home Sunday a week ago after visiting his half-brother, Roscoe Adams, one mile away. Following a search, Carver's horse, which he was riding, was found in a field wounded. Several neighbors also reported hearing shots fired on the morning Carver disappeared.
It had been rumored that Carver had trouble with a neighbor concerning alleged attentions he had been paying to another man's wife, but these could not be verified by authorities at a court of inquiry held last week.
