WCKY went on the air on September 16, 1929 from studio's at Sixth and Madison, with a 50,000 watt transmitter in Crescent Springs. The studio's later moved to Cincinnati.

WZIP went on the air on October 5, 1947. They were at 1050 on the AM dial, and, ironically, broadcast out of the same studios WCKY left at Sixth and Madison. But they only had a 250 watt transmitter, and that sat at the bottom of the hill, where I-75 runs today. The station was sold and moved to Cincinnati in 1957.
