Obituary of S. D. "Doc" Edwards
S.D. (Doc) Edwards, 65, operator of Doc’s Place, Park Ave. and Dixie Highway, Elsmere, famous restaurant, died Tuesday at his home above the restaurant.
Mr. Edwards was found dead in bed by his wife, Ruth. He had suffered an asthma attack July 4.
“Doc” operated the Dixie restaurant since 1938, after 14 years in a restaurant business in Silver Grove, Ky. The 1937 flood destroyed his Campbell County restaurant, causing him to move to Kenton County.
During World War I he served as a construction foreman on Ohio River dams 35 at Silver Grove and 36 at New Richmond. He was owner and operator of White Haven Poultry Farm, near Union, in Boone County.
“Doc” was a native of Wise County, Virginia, and was reared in the Odd Fellows Home, Lynchburg, Va., following the death of his parents.
Services will be held at the Stith funeral home, Florence, Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Carthage, Ky.
