Linnemann & Moore

The staff of Linnemann & Moore Ambulance, Undertakers and Embalmers, 717-19 Madison Avenue, Covington, circa1883. Founders Henry Linnemann and Edward Moore, Sr. (my great grandfather) are far left and 4th from left, respectively. The building is still there [March 2021]. Notice the embalmer didn't bother to take off his apron, and the livery boy is sneaking into the shot. It was an ingenious and successful partnership of German and Irish, appealing to both major communities at a time when funerals were held in the parlor of your home. Note the phone number in the second photo. Edward Moore passed away in 1898, and it eventually became Linnemann Funeral Home after my great-grandmother sold her interest.
