Retschulte's Hot Slaw

8 pieces of bacon,
3 tablespoons sugar,
1 teaspoon salt,
1/2 teaspoon pepper,
1/4 cup white vinegar,
3/4 cup water,
1 head cabbage finely shredded.

Fry bacon until crisp, remove bacon drain on paper towel. To bacon drippings, add sugar, salt, pepper, and stir until dissolved. Add vinegar, and water, cooking briefly. Pour over cabbage, top with bacon crumbles.
