Where the Riff Raff of Covington Exists

An article in the Kentucky Post of March 14, 1901, cites a portion of Austinburg as being "populated with people many of whom have no idea of what law is, and living as wild a life as Arabs in the Desert of Sahara.  The town is known as Oklahoma, and half of the residents of Covington have no idea of the conditions that go on there.

The writer says many of the residents "live on horseflesh," and that residents appear "never come in contact with water, and a cake of soap put to use would cause a terrible consternation.  They live like wild animals, and from hand to mouth, never knowing where the next meal is coming from."
