Thriving Little Maysville
Maysville, Ky. Special to The Freeman While others are retelling of the progress of their towns, both great and small, I will endeavor to put a word in for old Maysville. While we have no rich colored people here, we have some that are “hustlers from way back.” Almost all the colored people of prominence own their own homes. Only last fall Mrs. Bell Yancy bought a one-story home on the Fleming Pike, paying one thousand dollars for it. This spring, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walker bought a two story frame residence on the same street for one thousand five hundred dollars. Our people are “coming” slowly but surely. We have three colored churches, two Baptist and one Methodist. The Methodist Church is one of the finest in this section, the interior decorations alone costing $2,742.
