Great Damage from High Water
Perhaps the most destructive flood that ever visited Owen county occurred here last week. Every stream in the county left old landmarks and made new high water marks. Low lands on Eagle, Savern, Shortridge, Elk, in fact on all the streams were flooded and crops ruined or greatly damaged. The pike on Shortridge Creek was completely washed out in many places, long stretches of the road bed being obliterated. Fences and barns were washed away. The damage will run into thousands of dollars. The oldest inhabitants claim it was the highest water ever known.
