Agreement between Council and Buyers
At a called meeting of the Board of Council of the city of Owenton, March 16, 1908, the following members were present: W. A. Lee, Mayor, J. T. Walker, Dr. J. F. Rees, B. F. Holbrook, Frank Fullilove, and J. B. Martin. At said meeting the independent tobacco buyers in and near Owenton were invited and were present. The tobacco situation was discussed at length and it was the unanimous opinion of the Board of Council and buyers present that it would be for the best interests of the city and county for the independent buyers to cease buying any more tobacco either pooled or non-pooled, and all of said buyers agreed not to purchase any of said, and will close their business as soon as all of their outstanding purchases (which are very small) shall have been delivered. On motion meeting adjourned, W. A. Lee, Mayor.
