Jail Attacked by a Mob

Owenton, Ky., March 22. - Just before daylight this morning an armed mob made an unsuccessful attempt to take from jail William Field, a negro, accused of assaulting an aged white man at Cleveland [Folsom], in this county. The mob forced the jailer to unlock the outside door of the jail, but before they could get the prisoner Night Watchman Lee Roberts had aroused a number of citizens, who drive the intruders from the city without firing a shot. No one was wounded.
