In July of 1818, before Grant County was even formed, the Forklick Particular Baptist Church was founded on the north bank of Fork Lick Creek near Cordova, southwest of Williamstown. Though a church building was later constructed, the original members met in the house of John Skirvin whose son, Absolom, eventually donated one acre in which the church could use. The Church was originally intended to serve as an arm of the Old Baptist Church on the Dry Ridge, but the members voted to constitute their own.

Charter members of the church were: Isaac Conrad, Margaret Conrad, Samuel Simpson, Edmond Simpson, Louis M. Simpson, Samuel Stephens & Wife, Susannah Harrison, Nancy Harrison, Jemimah Harrison, Polly Skirvin, Levisa Deweese, Christopher Nation, William Glasscock, Mary Glasscock, John Skirvin, Sr., and Absolom Skirvin, with Elders Samuel Simpson and Alexander Monroe being the founding ministers.

Furthermore, longtime Baptist Preacher Elder William Conrad ministered to this church as part of his circuit-riding ministry. As he stated in his autobiography, "I had always held within me a special place for the Church at Fork Lick."
