Cordova, Kentucky, Established 1860s.

The Mount Pleasant Church of Christ was founded as early as the 1860's in Cordova, Kentucky, with Reverend Zachariah Carter being the Church's first minister. According to tradition, a small group of believers organized the church and conducted its first services at a “big oak tree at the foot of Mt. Pleasant Hill.” A log structure was quickly constructed to house its services, but a growing congregation necessitated a larger building. Seeing the need for future growth.

Thomas Lawrence donated a tract of land in which the church could grow. A larger, white sided church building was constructed in 1866 and served the church until April 13, 1952, when the current building was constructed.

Reverend Zachariah Carter was born in 1831 in Pendleton County, KY and married Mary “Polly” McClain on July 11th, 1950. The couple had six children from 1852-1868.
