Bedford Springs Hotel

Bedford, Ky., June 20, 1870

Mr. Editor: Having some moments to spare, I will give you a few items of news.

On Saturday last, Messrs. Burton & Stockton, lessees of the Bedford Springs gave a grand opening ball there. It was a perfect success. Fair ladies and their gallant cavaliers fulled the spacious and luxuriously furnished parlors, and the “flying feet” of many a merry dancer kept time to the witching music, while the vianda [sic] with which the tables were gracefully and temptingly spread, were such as to suit the tastes of the most capricious. In short, all went “merry as a marriage bell.”

The opening of the Springs is an event long to be remembered in Bedford and by all who were so lucky as to be there. With such a pleasant, healthy location, fine mineral waters, plenty of room for exercise, and the best of landlords, we may expect that they may be tempted to spend the heated term here.

Who would remain in the city with its dusty streets and hot pavements that could by any possibility exchange them for the cool shades and refreshing breezes which are so plentiful here?

Tell all your friends to visit these Springs if it only be for a week or two. They will feel better for the trip, be more ready for business and better able to attend to it, when the busy season returns,and be but,comparatively, little out of pocket.
