Albert Gallatin's bio at Wikipedia is here.
When the Lewis and Clark Expedition arrived at the beginning of the Missouri River, in Montana, they discovered that it was formed from three different rivers. Meriwether Lewis named those three rivers, in July, 1805, after whom he considered the three greatest Americans: Jefferson, Madison, and Albert Gallatin. We've put a little red box in southwest Montana to show you where we're talking about. More about the Gallatin River is at Wikipedia. |
